The Catacombs… so you go from never having seen a human skeleton to seeing thousands upon thousands of them.
It is an ossuary below the city containing the remains of about 6 million people. When the cemetaries were overflowing and causing problems in the late 18th century they moved them to these underground mines. They were quite artistically arranged, see the heart I took a picture of above.
Translations of the inscriptions:
“Thus ends everything on earth:
Spirit, Beauty, Talent, Grace,
Short-lived like a fleeting flower
Blown down by the slightest breeze.”
“Happy is he who always keeps the hour of his death before him and spends every day dying.”

“They were what we are
dust, toy of the wind;
fragile like men.
weak like nothingness!”
