Honestly one of the things I will miss most when I get back to Canada.

The Catacombs… so you go from never having seen a human skeleton to seeing thousands upon thousands of them.

It is an ossuary below the city containing the remains of about 6 million people. When the cemetaries were overflowing and causing problems in the late 18th century they moved them to these underground mines. They were quite artistically arranged, see the heart I took a picture of above.

Translations of the inscriptions:

“Thus ends everything on earth:
Spirit, Beauty, Talent, Grace,
Short-lived like a fleeting flower
Blown down by the slightest breeze.”

“Happy is he who always keeps the hour of his death before him and spends every day dying.”

And one I didn’t take a picture of:

“They were what we are
dust, toy of the wind;
fragile like men.
weak like nothingness!”

Yesterday I took Lola to Jours de Fêtes at Le Grand Palais which is basically a bunch of rides set up in a giant palace. Amusement parks in Paris are fancy.

I recently saw In Time… movies are given alternate titles that are inexplicably still in English here, so it was called ‘Time Out’. (Hysteria is called ‘Oh My God!’ for example).
I’m a sucker for movies like this so I really liked it. And I loved Amanda Seyfried and her amazing hair and outfits!

My favourite market, Marché Richard Lenoir near Bastille. It’s huge and on Sunday mornings it’s packed with people, vendors all yelling what they’re offering… there are a lot of markets closer to me but I like going to this one.

I finally visited the Louvre. Mostly the Greek and Roman antiquities and Napoleon’s apartments this visit. Including Venus de Milo. Definitely (obviously) the most amazing museum I’ve ever been to.

La Bibliothèque Nationale de France. I went here the other day, it is quite impressive.

I saw Lulu, a German opera, at the Bastille Opera house this weekend. It was good but dang operas are long! Four hours!
